Vegetable Seeds from Sow Seeds Ltd
Kale Redbor F1 is one of the most beautiful Kale we grow.
It produces mountains of colourful, curly leaved Kale with its blue-green leaves with red veins and stems in early summer that soon change through to a glorious purplish aubergine red as the weather cools. This variety could easily grace the ornamental garden but looks fabulous & brightens up the veg patch too, especially through the depths of winter where it will stand all winter long!
Kale Redbor F1 produces very curly, tasty, mild and crisp leaves. It is an excellent Kale that can be picked whilst at baby leaf size for salad production, left to mature to about 15cm long and treated as a ‘cut & come again’ variety or cut as a whole head. A single plant can be productive for 6 months so fresh flavoursome pickings are never far away.
Kale has been touted as one of the ‘superfoods’ because it’s highly nutritious and what could be better and more nutritious than growing your own at a fraction of the cost of shop bought and can from plot to plate in minutes.
The RHS awarded an AGM in 1999 with very positive comments about Kale Redbor F1 - ‘Tall plants with open habit, attractive purple, nicely curled leaves and a good flavour.’ We highly recommend it too!
Kale Redbor Vegetable Seed Information
|Seed Quantity:||Approx 35 seeds per pack.|
Any, but add lots of good organic matter to planting hole.
|When to Sow:||
Sow undercover February to April. Or direct sow May to July.
|How to Sow:||
Sow into modules or small pots, 1cm deep & water. Plant out when 12cm tall 50cm between each and 50cm between the rows, if large leaves are required. Plant seedlings closer about 10cm apart for baby leaf production. Plants will grow to 70-90cm tall. A spring sowing and a late summer sowing will keep you in Kale for the best part of a year.
Requires little maintenance apart from water in dry spells and pick leaves to ensure further production of young leaves. Wash leaves in water before using as whitefly can hide in the creases.
|Harvest:||3 months after sowing - June to March or 8 weeks for babyleaf production.|
