Trinidad Perfume chilli peppers have glossy yellow lantern shaped pods that have virtually no heat or very little heat and only registers a low 50-500SHU.
It looks like a Habanero Chilli Pepper and has a similar smoky, sweet citrus flavour but without the Habanero’s mind popping heat (350,000 SHU) .
The plants reach between 70-80cm tall and are very productive so they may require staking when fully laden with pods. The peppers mature from light green to yellow/orange and are about 2-5cm wide by 3cm long. It can take a while to be productive so needs a long season to fruit so it is best to sow early as possible in the season.
Trinidad Perfume is the perfect chilli for those who don’t like the heat but wish to taste the flavours and smell the aromas associated with Habanero type peppers. It makes an excellent seasoning for Caribbean style food and can be used fresh in salads like a sweet pepper, cooked or allow to dry and use as flakes or powder. A useful and unusual pepper.
