Runner Bean Polestar Seeds
Vegetable Seeds from Sow Seeds Ltd
Runner Bean Polestar produces attractive red flowers and heavy yields of fantastic tasty stringless pods over a long period.
Can be grown in a container. A companion planting idea is to plant sweet peas and runner beans together over a teepee, it not only looks pretty but the sweet peas draw in the insects that will help to pollinate the runner beans and therefore produce more beans.

Indoor Sowing Information
Site: |
Prefers fertile, rich soil in a sunny sheltered spot. In autumn dig in lots of compost or well-rotted manure, and rake in a general purpose fertiliser 2 weeks before sowing. They are hungry feeders.
|
When to Sow: |
April to May.
|
How to Sow: |
Sow 1-2 seeds into moist compost. Cover with 2.5cm of fine compost. Cover pots with glass or polythene. Firm gently & keep moist. Keep at about 15-20C. Seedlings appear within 7-14 days.
|
Care: |
Remove cover when seedlings appear. Harden off plants gradually for a few days in late May. Transplant into the ground spacing plants 25cm apart in rows 30cm apart or plant into large pots or tubs. They will require support as they grow up to 2m high either use canes and/or train over netting. 'Pinch out' the top growth when they have reached the required height and they will start putting all their energy into producing beans.
|
Harvest: | July to October. Pick regularly to maintain further cropping. |
