Chilli Seeds from Sow Seeds Ltd
Prairie Fire is a compact bushy plant that not only makes attractive plant for the kitchen windowsill but is great for cooking with as well.
It is a bushy dwarf variety that grows to about 25cm high by 30cm wide and produces lots of little chillies that measure 1.5cm long by 0.5cm wide and they mature in a range of colours from creamy yellow to purple, then orange and finally red. It had a reading of 70,000 SHU so of medium to hot heat levels.
Prairie Fire is one of the quicker varieties to start fruiting but keep an eye on it during colder spells as it can be susceptible to Botrytis. However if conditions are good it will just keep producing chillies over a long period so long as the pods are regularly picked. In 2013 we had peppers from late July to Late November.
The chilli pods are excellent fresh, frozen or dried and makes a lovely chilli jam so a versatile and good looking chilli plant. Prairie Fire is mini chilli heaven!
