Chilli Seeds from Sow Seeds Ltd
Devils Tongue Red Chilli Pepper as its name would suggest are mighty hot pods and they can reach from 125,000 – 325,000 on the Scoville Scale. The chillies are slightly wrinkled, flattened near to its pointed end and measures about 6cm long by 4cm wide.
This variety has been bred from Devils Tongue Yellow that was developed by an Amish farmer in Pennsylvania, USA about 20 years ago. They ripen from light green to red but it is not unusual for Devils Tongue Red to occasionally produce yellow or chocolate coloured peppers due to its parentage.
Devils Tongue Red Chilli plants are large and can grow to 1.2m tall so may require staking when the plant is laden with ripening chillies.
The name alone may encourage many to try this devilish hot chilli but it has many merits too for those who like their chilli peppers hot! It can be dried, frozen or used fresh!
