Cleome Violet Queen is a beautiful flower with unusual deep violet petals that whirl and swirl in the wind. It is a very productive plant producing flowers over a long period from June to September and makes a long-lasting colourful addition to the garden and flower arrangements.
Cleome Violet Queen unusual shaped flowers, add splashes of colour that both complement and contrast with other flowers perfectly. Its palmate shaped leaves have a thin red edge around their outside, making it suitable for funky, rich exotic arrangements - the leaf is almost rose-like. However its deep violet colour complements more formal arrangements too add a touch of colour and elegance through a flower bouquet or garden border.
The flowers are held on sturdy stems that reach about 60-80cm tall but they may need some staking and they have thorns so a bit of care is required when using them. The purple flower buds can take a while to unfurl and they do so a bit at a time, the seed heads are also very attractive when dried.
A trendy little flower that performs well through the year and makes an unusual colourful cut-flower.

|How to Sow:||Sow under glass Feb to May. Sow seeds 1cm deep into a seed tray and keep at 15°C. When large enough to handle ‘pot on’ and once it has filled the pot ‘harden off’ for 3-4 days before planting outside when risk of frost has passed. The germination of these seeds is greatly enhanced by exposing to fluctuations in temperature. We pop into heated propagator in day and remove at night for a few days.
Alternatively, direct sow seeds 1cm deep when risk of frost has passed and thin to 45cm apart.
