Lettuce Moonred is a small and compact romaine type lettuce with lovely burgundy coloured outer leaves and a lighter green centre. Its crisp, crunchy, glossy leaves are perfect for salads and sandwiches and make a handy size meal portion. It is slightly larger than Lettuce 'Little Gem' and resistant to bolting and tipburn.

Lettuce Moonred is sold in 'split pils' the seed is coated in an inert polymer and once sown it splits to create the optimum conditions for quick development of the seed. It is thought it best to sow Lettuce seed early in the morning or later in the day as they take better when not too hot when sown.

Lovley colourful red leaves add interest and crisp texture to a salad bowl and it is quick to mature.

Well drained site, preferably with light shade.
When to Sow
March to July
How to Sow:  

Indoors - sow 1 seed per cell, 1cm deep into quality compost and when large enough to handle transplant outside after a period of ‘hardening off.’ Keep well watered.

Outdoors – sow 1 seed every 15cm in rows 20cm apart. Keep well watered.

Protect early sowings and transplants from frost from March to May and from slugs/snails.

Sow every 2-3 weeks for a continuous supply.

Care:
Keep well watered in dry periods.
Harvest: May to September.
