Overview

Perpetual Spinach is a great easy to grow 'cut & come again' productive little plant that is winter hardy. It is a beet leaf that tastes like spinach but doesn't bolt like spinach and produces the earliest fresh veg of the year.

It can last for up to 2 years if picked regularly. Leaves should be used fresh so if you have too many give them away to friends or use them on your compost heap. The smaller immature leaves have a milder flavour. Good in containers too!

An easy to maintain and productive addition to the veg patch.

Site conditions Any, but particularly sunny
How to sow Indoors: March - September. Sow seeds into modules/small pots 1cm deep and keep inside for 6 weeks. (The seeds can be slow to germinate so patience is required, a few weeks is normal.) When large enough plant seedlings outside spacing 50cm apart in mid April. Aug/Sept sowings should be sown & kept in a polytunnel tunnel/greenhouse through the cold winter months either in the soil or in a container. Space 50cm apart or 1 plant to a 3-4L pot.

Outdoors: April to August. Sow in 2/3's at each station and that way you will be guaranteed a plant, thin to one and eat the thinnings. Seedlings should be spaced at 50cms apart.
Care It is best to pick leaves regularly other wise they become large & bitter and begin to flower shortening the lifespan of the plant.
Harvest Indoors: March sowings ready late May onwards, August/September sowings ready Oct/Nov onwards. (Usually 8-10 weeks from sowing).

Outdoors: 8-10 weeks from sowing. Mid April sowing ready Mid June. Mid July ready mid September.
