Overview

Pea 'Carouby de Maussanne' is a very attractive large mangetout pea that has flowers so pretty they could be grown in the garden borders!

Pea 'Carouby de Maussanne' is a tall variety (75cm) that produces bicoloured deep pink/mauve flowers followed by large flat pods that grow in pairs. The pods have a very sweet flavour and if any mangetout size pods are missed they can be left to mature & be shelled like normal peas.

Pea 'Carouby de Maussanne' pods tastes great sliced raw in salads or very lightly/quickly steamed or gently cooked in stir-fries at the last minute.

It is a heritage variety and is believed to date back to the 1800's.

Sowing months March, April, May, September
Site conditions Free draining, moisture retentive soil and an open sunny position.
How to sow March to May Outdoors or Sept in modules to overwinter undercover. Dig a shallow trench about 2.5cm deep and 15cm wide. Sow 3 rows of seeds about 4cm apart in each direction. Push lightly into soil and rake the soil carefully back over and gently firm. Allow 45cm between the rows. Seeds germinate in 7-10 days. Seeds can also be sown into modules indoors and planted out into final position after a few days of 'hardening off'.
Care Train peas up & over canes and netting if used. Pick 2/3 times a week to ensure formation of more pods. Keep soil moist & weed free.
Harvest June-Sept.
