Cape Gooseberry (dwarf) produces a small round light orange berry with a sweet acidic taste. The berry is encased in a papery husk that envelops the fruit and looks very attractive. It is also known as the 'ground berry'.
The fruit itself can be used raw in fruit salads, cooked in desserts, jams or part-dipped in chocolate as an appealing eatable garnish.
This compact version does best grown in a greenhouse in soil or containers. It can be grown outside in a very sheltered sunny spot but it does need good high temperatures to fruit successfully.
