Cauliflower 'All The Year Round' Seeds

Overview

Cauliflower has lost much of its popularity recently which is a shame as it is one of the most successful veg that can grow all year round in Britain. Many chefs are promoting it with new imaginative recipes but 'cauliflower cheese' is still a tasty option just don't overcook it.

Cauliflower 'All the Year Round' is a great variety, with white curds that can be harvested for many months of the year. Catch crops can also be sown under cauliflowers to help increase the productivity of the patch such as radishes or lettuce.

Sowing months	January, February, March, April, May, June, July
Site conditions	Full sun, fertile, firm soil that is moisture retentive.
How to sow	Summer cauliflowers: January to March. Winter cauliflowers: April to July. Sow in modules/cells 1cm deep and plant out when 7-10cm tall (after 'hardening off' for 3-4 days) usually 5-6 weeks after sowing. Germination is usually 7-10 days. Space plants 60cm apart for large heads or for mini crops space 30cm apart. Soil must be firm, so tread down soil well after planting. (Seeds can also be sown outdoors in a well-prepared seed bed from March to May, and the seedlings transplanted to their final position 6 weeks later).
Care	Keep well-watered as shortage can lead to cauliflowers bolting. Keep an eye out for pest such as slugs/snails, pigeons or carrot root fly etc and diseases like clubroot, downy mildew and mosaic virus. Keep weed free.
Harvest	Summer cauliflowers: June to October (20-26 weeks). Winter cauliflowers: November to May (36-38 weeks).
