Overview

Aubergine Ivory F1 is a new unusual variety with white skin and creamy-white flesh but still has the flavour & creamy texture of the more usual purple aubergines.

Aubergine Ivory F1 is an attractive plant with silver, nearly spineless foliage and purple flowers that are followed by showy white pendulous fruits – worth growing just for its appearance!

It is compact and well suited to grow in containers as it only reaches a height of 55cm by 45cm wide. It does best when grown inside as it needs consistently warm temperatures to fruit properly, but it can be successful in the warmest parts of the UK in a very sunny sheltered spot.

Aubergine Ivory F1 fruits mature & crop over a long period and they can remain on the plant for a long time before going over. It is best to pick the fruits when still shiny as dull fruits have gone past their best.

Seed qty (approx) 8
Sowing months February, March
Site conditions Full sun, preferably in greenhouse.
How to sow Sow indoors in a heated propagator, keep at 20°C. Should germinate in 10-20 days and then reduce night time temp to 15°C. Pot on when large enough into a 20cm pot. It is best to keep undercover/inside as it requires consistent high temperatures to fruit well. It may do well in a very sheltered sunny spot but do not plant out until risk of frost has passed.
Care Keep well-watered but do not over water when fruits have begun to form. Mist with tepid water as soon as flowers set. Feed fortnightly with a tomato fertilizer when fruits begin to form.
Harvest July to September.
