They have large sumptuous flower heads that span 15cm and are gold in colour with a rich chocolate coloured centre. They grow to a height of between 1-1.5m and have a strong neck that helps support the flower head. These sunflowers do not shed pollen when cut and are best cut just before first ray of petals open.

Sowing months January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December
Site conditions Sunny, moderately fertile but well-drained. Long hot summers are the best.
How to sow Sow seeds either Sept–March (under glass) into individual small pots and keep at a temperature of 10°C. Seeds will germinate in about 10 days, then pot on when about 8-10cm tall. Transplant outside when risk of frost has passed -1 plant every 10cm, in rows 10cm apart.

Alternatively direct sow seed 2.5cm deep, every 10cm in rows 10cm apart from April to August. Can of course plant in garden borders if you would rather.
Care No need to stake and water sparingly, (it doesn't mind a bit of neglect). Successional planting every 2-3 weeks can help prolong cropping season.
Flowers 2-3 months from sowing. Autumn sowings will take a little longer but flowers will be earlier in the season than outdoor ones sown in April. Flowers should be cut just as the first petals start to unfurl.
