Carrots are one of the best tasting veg to pick fresh from your garden. Carrot 'Early Nantes 2' will not disappoint as it has a lovely sweet flavour with very little core and is a blunt end variety that can reach a length of 15cm. It is a 2nd early/maincrop variety.
It can be direct sown outside from Feb to August, but early sowings shouldn't be sown until the soil has warmed up. Carrot seeds won't germinate if it is too cold (below 10°C.) A cloche could be used to help warm up the soil.
Carrot 'Early Nantes 2' can be sown under cover from Jan - Feb in root-trainers and very carefully transplanted out when the carrots measure no longer than 2.5cm & the soil has warmed up. (However it is better to sow carrot seed direct to the soil rather than transplant seedlings as the roots can be easily damaged).
Sow seed thinly to reduce the need for thinning as carrot-fly are attracted by the sweet smell. It is considered good companion planting to sow rows of carrots in between rows of onions as the smell of the onions puts off the carrot-fly - a lot of onions are required though but worth a try.
